ALBERT WEBSTER HITS A HALF DOZEN
Albert Webster made it six wins for the season in the JCW Sport class with victory in the second Vertu MINI CHALLENGE race of the weekend at Croft.
The JRW Motorsport driver had endured an uncharacteristically quiet opening race as he had to settle for third place, and went into Sunday’s encounter looking to return to winning ways having qualified on in second spot.
Webster made a solid start when the lights went out to retain his position as the field headed down to turn one for the first time, avoiding a clash ahead in the JCW field before nipping ahead of Cam Richardson before the safety car was deployed to recover two cars from the gravel.
On the restart, Webster maintained top spot but was unable to shake the NAPA Racing car behind as the pair ran in close quarters throughout.
Despite Richardson getting close on more than one occasion, Webster had enough in hand to keep his rival at bay’s he crossed the line three-tenths of a second ahead to grab the win.
Third on the road would go to Stephen Harrison after an impressive run in the Sustainable Fuel Development car that saw him spend most of the race keeping points leader Dylan Hotchin behind.
Harrison would gain some breathing space late on when Hotchin was forced to pit with a gearbox problem, marking the first time this season that the JamSport driver has failed to score.
It meant third in the points went to team-mate Ben Crossley, who also set the fastest lap in the class to help him retain third in the standings going into the final rounds, with Chris MacKenzie once again starting from the pits and taking fifth.
