LOCAL RACER GETS SET FOR DREAM JCW DEBUT
Local racer Gerry Hendry will make his debut in the Vertu MINI CHALLENGE this weekend at Knockhill after inking a deal to join forces with Jamsport.
Hendry will be at the wheel of the Repsol-backed JCW car that has been raced this season by a number of drivers, including former champion Ant Whorton-Eales and team boss Jamie Going.
The 38-year-old from nearby Dunfermline is currently competing in the Scottish Fiesta ST Cup, where he heads the championship standings on the back of multiple race wins during the season to date.
That leaves him with a handy advantage in the title race as he bids to better the third place finish he secured last year, having previously competed in stock car competition earlier in his racing career.
As well as his on-track performances, Hendry has been recognised for his contribution to motorsport in Scotland, having been handed a Special Award by the Scottish Motor Racing Club last year.
The Knockhill meeting will see him contest three races at the wheel of the JCW machine, with a focus on trying to enjoy the experience and securing the best results possible.
“I’m really looking forward to joining the MINI CHALLENGE grid this weekend for the first time,” he said. “It’s going to be a step up from where I am currently racing, and is a great opportunity to test myself at a higher level.
“This is the biggest weekend of racing at my home circuit, so I really want to go out and enjoy the whole experience. Three solid finishes have to be my target on track, and as long as I’m not last on the grid, then I’ll be happy!”
