DYLAN HOTCHIN INHERITS FINAL JCW SPORT WIN

Hannah Chapman headed the JCW Sport field in the final Vertu MINI CHALLENGE race of the weekend at Knockhill, although her Invitational status meant maximum points went the way of championship leader Dylan Hotchin.

The race kicked off with Cameron Richardson leading the field away from the line after topping the times in qualifying for NAPA Racing UK, with Webster second on the grid and Chapman in third.

Richardson held the lead off the line but both Webster and Chapman lost ground on the opening lap as Chris MacKenzie in the Bitcoin Racing car emerged in second spot after getting away well from the line.

Webster wasted little time in getting back ahead of MacKenzie into second spot before setting off after Richardson, and grabbed the lead with a fine move around the outside at Clarks on lap twelve.

Chapman had also cleared MacKenzie to sit third on the road, and she then battled ahead of Richardson and Webster on consecutive laps to head the Sport class.

Whilst Chapman crossed the line first, she wasn’t eligible to score points of make it onto the podium, meaning it was Webster who instead took victory to complete a weekend hat-trick – or so he thought.

Webster however was deemed to have gained an unfair advantage in passing Richardson at Clarks after running off track to complete the move, with the decision taken to drop him back behind Richardson in the results.

Richardson however had however picked up a five second penalty for exceeding track limits during the race which meant that rather than following inheriting victory from Webster, he instead dropped behind Hotchin in the results.

Once Webster’s penalty was applied, it therefore meant it was Hotchin who took the win despite initiallly crossing the line third amongst those eligible for the championship.

The maximum score means the Jamsport man extends his lead in the standings over Richardson and Webster.

MacKenzie would take the flag in fifth after also being pinged for track limits, with Ben Crossley rounding out the finishers in sixth – with both gaining a place in terms of the points as a result of Chapman’s status.
