BITCOIN RACING SETS FOCUS ON JCW SPORT TITLE
The Bitcoin Racing team will look to battle for honours in the JCW Sport class when it returns to the Vertu MINI CHALLENGE for the 2025 season.
The Kent-based squad joined the grid for the first time last year after making the move up from the CityCar Cup, initially running a single car for Chris MacKenzie in the headline JCW category.
After a troublesome opening meeting at Donington Park where the team was forced to contend with gearbox gremlins, the decision was taken to switch over to the new JCW Sport class for the remainder of the campaign.
Immediately scoring a top ten overall finish and picking up a brace of podium finishes in class at Snetterton, MacKenzie would go on to enjoy a strong year within the new category as he fought his way to seven class podiums.
MacKenzie would also show his pace at Brands Hatch during the season finale as he scored the fastest JCW Sport race lap of the weekend.
Having ended the season fifth in the JCW Sport class – largely as a result of not scoring points in the opening meeting – MacKenzie and the team will now return for a full season in the category aiming to fight for class wins, with the overall goal of pushing for title honours.
“I’m excited to be joining the Vertu MINI Challenge for a second year, and am keen to try and build on the valuable lessons and experience gained from last season,” he said.
“Starting last year in the JCW class before we moved over to JCW Sport meant it was difficult to accumulate points for the championship and we were always playing catch-up to the rest of the field. At the same time however, it meant there was no real pressure on me in terms of the championship and I was able to use the year to adapt to what was a pretty big step up from racing a 70hp car in the CityCar Cup!
“Going into 2025 and being part of the JCW Sport grid from the start will give me a much better opportunity to now get involved in the title fight. With a year behind us, both myself and the team are feeling more comfortable with the car and we’re ready to go out there and push for the top step.”
