JAMES SHERRINGTON JOINS WESTBOURNE FOR COOPER DEBUT

James Sherrington will make the step up to the Vertu MINI CHALLENGE Trophy in 2025 after signing up as the latest member of Westbourne Motorsport’s title defence.

The teenager joins forces with Olivier Algieri, Luca Marinoni Osborne, Rhys Hurd and Jamie Keates in an expanded line-up as he graduates into senior racing for the first time.

Having made his mark on the Rotax Karting scene in his formative years, Sherrington entered the Junior Saloon Car Championship in 2023 and would go on to become a regular contender towards the sharp end of the grid in 2024.

Securing victory at Brands Hatch, Sherrington ended the campaign inside the top six in the standings and will now look to make an impression on the Cooper grid when the season kicks off at Snetterton next month.

“I’m really looking forward to taking my first steps into senior racing with Westbourne Motorsport thanks to the backing from my partners Romac Logistics and Holman,” he said.

“I have my sights set on the Rookie Cup title and the top ten overall, although being only 16, I know how much of a challenge this will be, given the pedigree of the series. Ultimately, I’m excited to learn from older, more experienced drivers so that I can develop my craft both on and off the track.

“With the previous successes of Westbourne Motorsport, hopefully it will be possible to carry my form from the end of last season, with the goal being podiums and wins but I know how tough it is going to be!”

Westbourne Motorsport team boss James Colburn backed Sherrington to impress during the year ahead, given the success of previous JSCC graduates into the series.

“I’m really excited to welcome James and his family to the team,” he said. “Harry Hickton and Max Hall have proved with us over the last two years what graduates from the JSCC can achieve and with James finishing with a win in the final meeting at Brands Hatch last season we want to continue that positive momentum.

“James has already looked very strong in testing so far and I look forward to seeing him at the front end of a very competitive grid alongside his team mates. We have five very quick drivers who I believe put us in the best position to retain both Drivers’ and Teams’ Championship titled.”
