MINI CHALLENGE CONFIRMS SUSTAINABLE FUEL SWITCH
Organisers of the Vertu MINI CHALLENGE can today confirm a switch to sustainable fuel for the JCW and JCW Sport classes for the news season, on the back of a successful tests held across 2024.
As part of longer term plans to move to a 100 per cent sustainable fuel in the coming years, the series introduced a special development car that competed last season as a guest entry in the JCW Sport category.
A number of drivers – including the likes of Hannah Chapman, Harvey Riby and Roan Lundy – shared the car over the course of the campaign to test a new fuel, with the success of the programme resulting in it now being introduced for 2025.
Sunoco’s RFM E25 – a 25% ethanol-based fuel – will become the control fuel for all cars competing in the JCW and JCW Sport classes in the first step towards the MINI CHALLENGE moving to fully sustainable fuels in the future.
Motorsport UK, the governing body for motorsport in the country, has already stated that it would like all championships to run fully sustainable fuels in the coming seasons, although a final date has still to be confirmed.
Whilst the new fuel will be mandatory across the top two MINI CHALLENGE classes, cars competing in the Cooper category will continue to race on the same CMR Plus fuel also provided by Sunoco.
